It has been an absolute whirlwind of a half term! We’ve packed so much into the last five weeks, and guess what? We have another jam-packed five weeks waiting for us right after the half-term holiday.
Before we all head off for a well-deserved break, here is a little look back at what our brilliant learners have been up to:
Our writing this term has centred around the atmospheric poem, 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes. The children have truly channelled their inner authors, mastering the art of personification, expanding their fronted adverbials, and cleverly rewriting the story from various characters' perspectives. Watch out, bestseller charts!
In maths, the class has absolutely excelled in algebra and statistics. They tackled these tricky topics with a smile and are now in the middle of revising decimal numbers to make sure their skills are razor-sharp.
Science has been quite literally brilliant! We’ve been exploring our 'Light' topic—creating dazzling rainbows through prisms and building sneaky periscopes to see around corners. A huge highlight was an eye-opening (pun intended!) presentation about the human eye by our very own resident optician, Mrs Sophie (Elahi and Ariyan’s mum). Thank you, Mrs Sophie!
Our journey into Ancient Greek culture has been a massive hit. Inspired by historical artefacts, the children designed and crafted their own clay pots, focusing on a polished finish and functional design.
We’ve been reflecting on what matters most to us and to members of various world faiths. It was fascinating (and quite amusing!) to see what moved to the top of the children's priority lists when luxuries like mobile phones, the internet, and football were stripped away! The children showed great cooperation and compromise skills when making tough group decisions.
Our brains are officially full! However, please don’t let them go completely sleepy over the half-term break. Straight after the holidays, we will be sitting our end-of-term GL assessments in reading, SPAG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar), arithmetic, problem-solving, and science.
To keep those mental gears turning, please try to:
The countdown is on! In Week 8, we will be heading off with Year 5 on our fantastic residential trip to Sagana, to spend the week with Savage Wilderness. It is going to be an unforgettable adventure. If you haven't already, please make sure you have signed up and completed all the necessary details!
Have a wonderful, restful, yet fun-filled half-term week!
Ms Russell
