U16 Football Tournament - Healthy Individuals

It seems like an age has passed since the last time we wrote about a secondary inter-school football match, (Indeed, I believe some of our Year 9 last played when they were back in Year 5). But I am happy to say that Football is most definitely back on the BMIS secondary agenda. On Saturday 17th June the under 16 six-a-side team arrived at Shree bright and early in the morning. The team consisted of Daniel Year 11, Fidel, Ernest, and Aden Year 9, and Denis and Kevin in Year 7.

It was to be a round-robin tournament against six of the best teams from across Mombasa. Each match was six-a-side with ten minutes of play one-way. During the matches our boys showed moments of brilliance where we were every bit the equal of any other team there. Some great inter-play between our midfield and forwards (Daniel, Fidel and Kevin) saw us have a number of chances, but sadly we failed to convert. Our defense and keeper (Aden, Denis and Ernest) worked hard to keep the score line respectable. Thank you too, to Mr Moyse for his team pep-talks between matches, helping to lift our spirits and focus on the positives.

Having no subs our boys began to tire as the tournament progressed, but showed true grit and determination to battle through to the end. Even though we were up against older, more experienced and larger squads, our boys conducted themselves with great spirit and character. Despite not gaining any points on the board, I am very happy and proud of our boys. The true success here was the learning experience and hard work shown by our team.

This was a restart, football is back up and running. From here, the only way is up and I very much look forward to our future fixtures.
