Secondary Assembly - World olive tree day

30th November 2021

World olive tree day takes place on the 26th of November every year. The branch holds an important place in the minds of men and women. The olive branch is a symbol of peace. The olive tree has been appreciated for its beauty; its leaves are dark green and silvery. Greek people grew olive trees as far back as 3500 BC. Olives and olive oil are used in many dishes from the Mediterranean area. Olive oil is good for your hair and skin. They have small white flowers and egg- shaped fruits that are purplish-black when ripe. The olive fruit is used to make olive oil. Many olives are processed so they can be eaten.

WHY IS OLIVE TREE IMPORTANT?

Wednesday 26th November was ‘World Olive Tree Day’. Madam Mwangi talked about it’s importance and we learned a few things about it.

Olive tree is a symbol of peace, wisdom, fertility, prosperity, health, luck, victory, stability and tranquillity. Moreover, the olive tree symbolizes the eternal link between man and the earth.

What is the spiritual meaning of an olive tree?

There are many meanings of the olive tree. It is a symbol of friendship and reconciliation, cleansing and healing, light, victory and richness and, above all, a sign of peace. It is a plant which should be treated with reverence as it holds many spiritual gifts.

There is much to learn, share and celebrate on World Olive Tree Day, and I encourage everyone to join in through various activities such as debates, conferences, workshops, cultural events and presentations or exhibitions, come next year.
