Year 6 Camping Trip

19th June 2021

On Thursday, after Music, we got our luggage from the DT room, walked to the Boarding House and helped each other to set up our tents. We were hot and sweaty when we finished, so we decided to play water polo to cool down. Before we knew it, it was dinner time!

Once we finished eating spaghetti bolognese and fruit, we wandered around school screaming at the top of our lungs because no-one else was in school. We also played in the playground, in the dark. Then we watched a movie; some of us played games instead. After that, we tried to get to sleep but this was not an easy task…

On Saturday morning, we woke up and complained that we hadn’t slept much, and then got ready for breakfast. We were all famished and couldn’t wait for food! The chefs served us sausages, baked beans and toast.

Once we were all satisfied, we got our bikes from the P.E room and rode around the pitch. We then put our bikes on the bus, which we struggled with, and we set off to the Nature Trails. When we got there, we split into two groups and went on a 10km bike ride. Unfortunately, one of the groups only rode 3km, but they also got to play in the playground afterwards. On the way, we saw seven waterbucks and three dik diks. While cycling, the group which cycled 10km saw a small airstrip with four planes inside.

Not long after completing the cycle, we went to Yul’s and ordered a bunch of pizzas and burgers, as well as two scoops of ice cream each! We also chased each other on the beach.

When we reached school, we were all tired and we had some chill time. During chill time, we played water polo and watched a movie. Then it was time for our BBQ and champagne (non-alcoholic). The chefs came to the boarding house and cooked roast chicken, mishkaki, kachumbari and potatoes. After that, we played ‘Simon Says’ and ‘Musical Chairs’. We sat around the campfire, roasted marshmallows for our smores and shared some secrets.

At the end of our trip (Saturday morning), we woke up feeling refreshed and had an odd breakfast, which was pancakes and beans. After a while, we took down our tents. This part was easy, but for some of us it was very hard folding up the tent!

Then we handed out the remaining snacks from our trip to the staff who helped us with different things for the trip. After this we went home. Some children were picked up quickly but for us our drivers took time to arrive.
