Learners enjoying success and challenge during Pi Day

17th March 2023

On Tuesday 14th March the secondary students celebrated π Day. We spent lesson three and four of the day having fun with Mathematics. Pi day reminds us that Mathematics is not just about numbers and calculations but a whole host of other skills with problem solving at the forefront of it all.

After a short introduction everyone split into house groups for a rotation of Mathematics activities. Students also got the opportunity to try some of the puzzles talked about in the video.

Creating polyhedral with sonobe units while also enjoying origami.

Problem solving with geometry and other topics.

Using logic to find the fewest moves out of the Maze

Maths relay

As in previous Pi days we finished up with the Maths relay. Each team had 16 questions to solve, they got 2 marks for answering correctly on the first try and one mark for getting it right the second time. The challenge in the questions lay in the combination of logic and the numeracy needed.
