KS2 News: Pots, Plots, and Polished Teeth!

9th May 2026

Welcome to Term 3! It is the final stretch of the academic year, and we have hit the ground running with enough energy to power the entire school. The corridors are buzzing, the classrooms are full of creativity and, if you listen closely, you can probably hear the faint echo of Years 1-3 rehearsing their latest show-stopping musical numbers.

New Faces and Warm Welcomes

We are delighted to welcome some new members to our KS2 family this term. A huge BMIS welcome goes to Andy and Zahra, who have joined the ranks of Year 6, and to Andy’s sister, Hera, who has settled into Year 3. They have already been enthusiastically embraced by their new classmates, proving once again that our community is as welcoming as it is vibrant. We look forward to watching them flourish and thrive throughout the term.

Our Learning Journey Continues…

In Year 6, the students have been transported back to the world of the Ancient Greeks. When they aren't getting their hands dirty, crafting authentic Greek-inspired clay pots in DT, they are busy chasing down The Highwayman in English. The class is working hard to hone their SPaG skills and incorporate sophisticated, higher-level vocabulary into their writing—though we hope the Highwayman doesn't actually gallop away with their writing!

Year 5 are also on a historical adventure, exploring the fascinating world of the Ancient Mayans. They are currently preparing detailed non-chronological reports on the topic. If you find yourself walking past their classroom, do take a moment to admire the Mayan masks already on display, showing off the artistic talents of the class.

Year 4 are riding high on the success of last term’s production and are now channelling that theatrical energy into exploring playscripts in greater detail. In science, they are getting stuck into the "nitty-gritty" of life—specifically oral hygiene and the digestive system. It is a fascinating look at how our bodies work, and we are sure they will have plenty of facts to share at the dinner table about the importance of brushing!

Meanwhile, Year 3 are taking a more "earthy" approach to geography and science by digging around into rocks and soils, and finding out more about the tea industry. When they aren't investigating the ground beneath their feet, they are busy learning lines and songs for the upcoming Year 1/2/3 production. It promises to be an amazing show, so watch this space!

Across the whole of KS2, our budding "mathletes" are preparing for the rapidly approaching Gauss mathematics contest. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to flex their logical muscles and apply their problem-solving skills to some truly challenging puzzles. We are very proud of the dedication they are showing to their mathematical training.

The Golden Question

As we embark on this final term, we encourage you to keep the conversation about learning going at home. We know that the standard answer to "What did you do today?" is often a shrug or a "nothing," but with everything from Mayan masks to digestive systems going on, we know that isn't true! Please do ask your children: "What did you learn today?" You might be surprised by the answer.

Here’s to a brilliant, busy, and inspired final term!
