The FS1 children have enjoyed a fantastic few weeks of learning as part of our topic, Around the World. The children have been enthusiastically exploring different countries, cultures, animals, foods, and traditions through a variety of exciting, hands-on activities.
Throughout the topic, the children travelled the globe through stories, discussions, art, music, and play. They learned about different countries and discovered some of the unique animals that live there, from African safari animals to creatures found in other parts of the world. The children enjoyed comparing habitats and learning interesting facts about the animals they encountered on their journey.
A particular highlight was exploring foods from around the world. The children enjoyed tasting some delicious Kenyan delicacies and Belgian waffles, learning how different countries have their own special foods and traditions. These experiences encouraged the children to talk about flavours, textures, and their own food preferences while developing an appreciation for different cultures.
The children also enjoyed learning how to say "hello" in different languages, helping them understand that people around the world communicate in many different ways. Another exciting experience was interviewing some of the older children who had recently travelled to London. The FS1 children asked questions and listened with great interest as they learned about the sights, experiences, and adventures of travelling to another country.
As part of our creative learning, the children engaged in art and craft activities inspired by different countries, explored maps and flags, and shared their thoughts and experiences about places they have visited or would like to visit one day.
Alongside our topic work, our phonics sessions have continued with a focus on body percussion, rhythm, and rhyme. The children have loved clapping, tapping, stomping, and moving their bodies to explore sounds and patterns, helping to develop their listening skills and early phonological awareness.
We are so proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity, and excitement the children have shown throughout this topic. Here are some of our pictures—enjoy seeing the wonderful learning and adventures we have shared as we travelled Around the World together!
