Checkmate! BMIS Chess Success

2nd May 2026

It has been an action-packed week for the BMIS chess team! Across two major tournaments, our students—from seasoned players to fresh newcomers—showed incredible focus and grit.

Tournament Highlights

At the Inter-Braeburn Tournament, our team faced tough competition with impressive results:

  • Carl took home Bronze in the U8 category.
  • Ishaan earned Bronze in the U10 category.
  • Jasmine, Iviani, and Marthinus played brilliantly in their brackets, while Aaryan, Jayson, and Nathaniel gained further experience in friendly matches.

The success continued the following day at the IAPS Tournament, where we secured two major wins: Jasmine won Gold in the U11 category, and Aaryan took Gold in the U13 category, both following tie break matches.

National Representation

We are also incredibly proud of Carl, Jasmine, and Iviani, who all qualified for the Africa Youth Chess Championship nationals. Both Carl and Iviani stepped up to compete at the national level, and we now wish Iviani the very best of luck as she moves forward to the final stage!

The perseverance shown by all our players has been inspiring. We look forward to seeing the BMIS chess program reach even greater heights!
