25th November 2022
On Friday 25th November, the Year 6 students spent breaktime in the secondary side of the school. In recent sporting events, our team noticed the strong bond that the Y6 and 7 students have from when the current Y7 students were in Year 6. In order to nurture this link and to respond to the Y6 students’ wish to interact with their former primary friends, a breaktime session together was trialled. The boys were very keen to play table tennis and basketball and asked when they could come back, when the secondary bell sounded at the end of break. I am sure that we will be able to welcome them back soon. The girls preferred to sit together in the field and eat their snacks on the bleachers. They talked briefly about subject choices in high school and did some stretching exercises. At the end of break they said that they look forward to coming back again.
Our Y6 to 7 transition programme is strong and includes several steps throughout the year to ensure a gradual, gentle and scaffolded transition. It is reviewed every year and this year some new ideas will be trialled; spending some breaktimes in secondary is one of them.
