What a fantastic term it has been in Year 5! We have embraced this half of the term with enthusiasm, excitement, and great achievements. The children returned from their midterm break refreshed and ready to complete the term with energy and focus.
In Maths, we have had an exciting time exploring fractions (Part B), multiplication, decimals, percentages, perimeter, and area. It has been a joy to see the children flourish in their learning, demonstrating enthusiasm and a positive approach in every lesson.
In History, we studied the people of Kenya, which beautifully connected to our vibrant and engaging class assembly. The children proudly shared their learning, performed a traditional Kenyan dance, and even had the opportunity to prepare and enjoy a Kenyan delicacy.
This half-term, our focus in Geography is South America. We have already begun exploring its location and the different countries that make up this diverse continent.
In English, we have delved into instructional and explanation texts, as well as journalistic writing. The children particularly enjoyed writing their own instructions, linking them to our DT lessons, and then following them to make delicious ice lollies and milkshakes.
In Science, we explored how flowering plants reproduce and compared the life cycles of mammals, amphibians, birds, and insects. We are eagerly looking forward to our upcoming trip in Week 11, where we will explore different types of pollination and use VR to bring our learning to life!
Our PSHE lessons have been both engaging and insightful, as we focused on personal safety. The children had meaningful discussions about different types of touch and learned who to report to when needed.
It has been a truly rewarding term so far—we love and enjoy every moment of being in Year 5!
