Year 3 News

16th September 2022

It has been a fantastic and exciting start to KS2 for the Year 3s as we have settled very well into our new classroom routine and commenced our learning.

In Science, we learned to identify various push and pull forces acting on objects. We then conducted our very own experiments to investigate the effects of friction on different surfaces. We thoroughly enjoyed this ‘learning through inquiry’ experience, making predictions, recording our observations and explaining our results.

This week in Maths, we started to count in 4s in a fun and interesting way, playing games, and to our amazement, we have begun to identify a pattern made in the ones column!

In English, we continue to work on our free verse ‘Magic Box’ poems, adding lots of description, rhythm and impact using adjectives, alliteration and personification. As we expand our vocabulary, we add our newly learnt words to our ‘New Words’ Tree in class and are looking forward to growing this tree as the year progresses.

In Topic, we are keen to learn more about Italy’s famous landmarks, food, and culture. We can show you which continent to find this country on the globe and, using our sense of direction, know how to get there from Kenya. We also know what to pack in our suitcases based on Italy’s climate, landscape, and carnival celebrations.

We thoroughly enjoyed making our very own Italian flag collages in Art and can explain what each of the three colours in the flag represent. We also had a go at making our unique Leaning Tower of Pisa and can tell you why the building leans to one side.
