It has been such a joy to see our Year 2 children settle in so well and begin the term with energy, excitement, and a love for learning. They have quickly adapted to their routines and are already showing great enthusiasm across all subjects.
In Maths, we are exploring place value. The children have been working with tens and ones, learning how to make numbers, estimate them, and place them carefully on a number line. It has been fantastic to see their growing confidence in handling numbers and solving problems together.
In English, we are using Talk for Writing to develop our storytelling skills. Our focus book is Peace at Last by Jill Murphy, and the children have really enjoyed retelling the story, acting out the different parts, and discussing the characters. They are now eagerly working on creating their own versions of the story, and we can’t wait to see their finished pieces of writing.
In Science, our topic is Animal Life Cycles. The children particularly enjoyed sequencing their own life stages—from baby to toddler to childhood—and reflecting on how much they have already grown and learned. This has sparked lots of curiosity about how different animals grow and change too.
In History, we are learning all about The Great Fire of London. The children have been fascinated by this important event and are busy preparing their projects to show what they have discovered. We are all looking forward to seeing how their hard work will come together.
To top it all off, we are also very busy preparing for our Year 2 Class Assembly next week. The children are excited to share their learning and to show how they are truly “Building Brilliance Together” this year.
It has been a fantastic start, and we are so proud of how much the children are already achieving. We look forward to another exciting few weeks ahead!
