We began the term with lively holiday recounts, where pupils shared their experiences both orally and in writing. It was wonderful listening to the fun and exciting adventures they enjoyed over the break.
In Maths, we have been diving into place value. The children have loved comparing and ordering numbers up to 10,000, as well as learning to write these in Roman numerals. We will be wrapping up this unit next week, and the end-of-unit test will be sent home as homework.
In English, we have been exploring Aesop’s fables. The children have really enjoyed reading, watching, and creating their own fables. Alongside this, we have been developing grammar skills and handwriting. Many pupils are eager to earn their pen licences, and they are putting in great effort with their spellings and cursive writing.
History has been great fun as we uncover the story of the Kenya–Uganda Railway, also known as the “Lunatic Express.” The children have particularly enjoyed tracing the railway’s timeline, from horse and people-pulled trains to the modern electric trains we see today.
In Science, we have begun investigating states of matter. Pupils already understand the particle sizes and properties of solids, liquids, and gases, and they are busy planning their investigations.
Year 4 is buzzing with energy in our Maths and Reading Corner. Whether it’s reading a book, tackling Maths games, working on comprehension cards, or practising SPaG boosters, every moment is filled with learning and fun.
We are especially looking forward to our upcoming day trip to the railway station!
