On Tuesday the U9 IAPS squad ventured off to Nairobi on the train. We saw a few elephants but mainly played games, chatted, and ate our snacks! After a long journey, we had a good sleep in readiness for a day of lessons from Mr Ndungu, Miss Barasa and Mrs Welch. Everyone completes their maths, English and science tasks well, with focus and care. In the afternoon we were able to watch the BGE U13 1st boys play St Christophers at rugby. We enjoyed the game and took some top tips from both teams into their training matches against BGE and Braeburn Nanyuki early in the evening. A hearty dinner and an early night set us up well for a day of Netball (for the girls), and rugby (for the boys).
The day of the festival arrives and we are set to go. After a big breakfast we went for a relaxing walk around the campus which led into a comprehensive warm up.
The format of the U9 game is that all players rotate positions at half time. This is to ensure that all players are able to gain experience of attack, centre court and defensive play.
The girls were a little nervous about their first game, but soon got into the mix of the game. There was a lot of defending to do, but the girls put into practice some of the technical aspects that they had learnt in their lessons. The game against the BGE B team was our best game, with BMIS leading by 1 goal at half time. BGE came back into the game in the second half though, that said, we made some really positive attacking pieces of play. In each game we took away something that helped us in the following game. As the day progressed, we were able to grow as a squad, learn from our mistakes, and end with some really positive play. Special mention goes to Maria for her fantastic interceptions throughout all matches.
The U9 rugby team had a fantastic time at BGE taking part in the rugby festival. It was a brilliant opportunity for the boys to display their rugby skills, make new friends and enjoy an exciting new experience. They represented our school with pride and gave their best effort in all six matches, despite facing some strong and competitive teams.
Alexander and George made excellent tackles that helped stop the opposition from scoring. Luming, Hermann and Mohamed stood out with their accurate passing and great support play. As a team, the boys worked well together—running with determination and constantly striving to score tries. Their performance grew stronger with each match.
Well done, boys!
The day was a great learning experience for the girls and boys involved. Everyone had a great time, represented BMIS with responsibility and were a credit to the school. Well done!
