What a spectacular day we had celebrating the beloved world of Eric Carle! Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) was transformed into a vibrant garden of creativity as we dove into the classic tale of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Crèche: Tiny Hands, Big Ideas
Our youngest learners focused on developing their fine motor skills and exploring patterns.
- Pasta Threading: Using green pasta shapes, the children practiced their hand-eye coordination to "build" their very own hungry caterpillars.
- Symmetry Butterflies: We explored the magic symmetry by painting on one side of a paper wing and folding it to create perfectly balanced, vibrant butterflies.
FS1: Length, Logic, and Layers
In FS1, the focus shifted to mathematical language and creative construction.
- Painting: The children enjoyed painting caterpillars.
- Long vs. Short: We used our caterpillars to dive into early measurement concepts, comparing which caterpillars were "longer" and which were "shorter," helping the children grasp basic scale and comparison.
FS2: The Magic of Metamorphosis
Our FS2 students took a deeper look at the science behind the story, blending art with biology.
- The Life Cycle: The children mapped out the journey from egg to tiny caterpillar, to cocoon (chrysalis), and finally, the emergence of the butterfly.
- Art: The children drew caterpillars and butterflies
It was a day filled with "munching" through new skills and "emerging" with a greater love for reading.
