This term at BMIS, our main focus was Swimming. We participated in a number of galas whereby many of our swimmers have cut their times considerably, demonstrating a great deal of development in their techniques.
Sometimes, in order to improve, we have to break things down and rebuild. In the re-build phase, at times, we aren’t able to perform as well as previously, because of the re-learning that has taken place. However, once the technique and skills are there, we learn, train hard, and as a result see further success.
For our swimmers, this is what has been in process over the last two terms. We have initiated some re-building to develop our students’ techniques, and as a result, we are starting to see the benefits. As swimming is a sport whereby we firmly believe that BMIS can really flourish, we continue to seek participation, commitment, and dedication to the club for all that wish to improve. The club allows for further development and specialised instruction which in turn has seen great progress from those who have remained consistent.
Consistency is key to success in swimming, in both training and personnel, both as a student and teacher/coach. As well as consistency being a key ingredient for success, so is variety and balance. Our swimming and sports programme provides pupils the opportunity to participate in many activities, so as not to specialise too early and therefore become ‘bored’ with 1 stroke, or 1 sport. When pupils have variety and balance in their activities, they succeed and remain interested.
During swimming training, Mr Mazazi supports and works on developing correct techniques to ensure consistent methodology. When correct technique has been developed, Mr Mazazi focuses on endurance, and after comes speed. Our focus at BMIS is to support pupils in making progress, through a long-term development approach that fosters versatility that will see pupils develop and excel over the course of their time at BMIS. With consistency comes success.
The recent IAPS Swimming Gala provides us with strong examples of success from our committed swimmers:
Amina U9 25m Butterfly Bronze
U9 boys Freestyle Relay (Adam, David, Alexander and George) Bronze
Jasmine 100m Individual Medley Bronze
Matis U13 50m Breastroke Silver.
We look forward to further commitment to our swimmers in the coming term and wish the following the best of luck to the swimmers attending the World Schools’ Games (Swimming) later this year: Jasmine, Nicole, Natalie and Denis.
In further news, our hockey teams put on a good show during their fixtures which is great to see, and the senior athletes performed extremely well in the Shree Track and Field competition, coming a brilliant 2nd overall! Our U19 boys are improving considerably as they train weekly, and commit to their continual development. In their most recent tournament, the U19 boys won 2 games, and drew in the group stages to the eventual winners of the tournament! The boys are a prime example of demonstrating commitment to training, showing that consistency supports improvement, and improvement supports increased success.
Let us not forget a new event to the calendar, the U9 sports festival at Kivukoni. This event was superb, enabling all of our Year 3 and 4 students the opportunity to compete at hockey, football, and swimming, all on the same day! We look forward to seeing Kivukoni join us next term at BMIS for Touch Rugby, Netball and swimming. We hope to forge our relationship with them to expand to the U11 teams next academic year.
Team PE at BMIS strives to engage our pupils with not just sports, but also the opportunity to develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, trust, and resilience. Through Sport, we are able to learn so much more to become confident individuals, responsible citizens, learners enjoying success. Team PE continues to encourage pupils to be fully engaged in PE and Games next term, with pupils attending lessons with the correct equipment to ensure that they can engage fully and take the most from lessons.
We ask for Parents and Guardians to support our pupils' growth in sport. Please help your children to be organised and have the correct kit for their sports lessons. As has been requested by a large number of pupils and parents, we continue to develop our fixtures programme. Please support these competitive opportunities by making sure your children are available to represent the school when selected.
The fixture and tournaments for term 3 have been organised with other schools. Please check the school calendar when shared at the start of term so you are aware of the dates of these events.
Finally, in order for us to be able to attend events, we must have permission from parents and guardians, please ensure that you respond, even if your child/ren cannot take part. This is integral to us knowing numbers for transport, and ultimately to know whether we are able to attend the event.
Thank you for supporting Team PE and your children as we all continue to develop our sport provision.
