Term 1 PE Roundup

7th December 2024

Athletics Club whole school

This term has seen lots of students take part in the Athletics Club. We have worked on a range of events within the club to try to develop our skill and knowledge of the many disciplines that are available in Athletics. Students have understood some of the more technical aspects of running in relation to sprinting and middle distance running, and they have gained awareness of the more technical elements required for the jumps and throws. Athletics club was attended by many budding athletes and we hope for the same again in Term 1 next academic year!

Cricket Club (Primary)

This term we have a good gathering of primary students taking part in the cricket club. We focused on the basics of bowling and batting, and incorporated the elements of fielding as well as gaining an understanding of game play. Students were enthusiastic throughout the term, and their skills really improved as the term wore on, particularly with the bowling action, which can be tricky! The students’ knowledge and newly acquired skills enabled them to excel for their houses in the Inter House event! Well done to all those cricket players!!

Swimming and Sport Term 1

This term has seen an array of sports being played throughout the term. Swimming is always consistent throughout the year. However, our focus in other areas has seen football, cricket and rounders.

At the start of the term, the U11 boys fared well in the U11 BMIS cricket tournament, reaching the semi-finals. A great effort for their first outing of the term. From there, we have seen football fixtures for the U9, U11 boys and girls as well as the U13 and Open boys. We have also hosted an U11 and U13 Rounders fixture in order to provide exposure to fixtures for our students. Next term will see an increased number of fixtures for hockey and football as well as some tournaments to look forward to.

This term we have also had a number of Inter House competitions for both sections of the school. It was great to see all students get fully involved in competing for their houses and really showing the skills that they have learnt throughout the term. Well done to everyone who was involved, including the teachers who support their houses!

As mentioned above, Swimming is a sport that continues throughout the year. We have welcomed Mr Vald Mazazi from Nairobi as our new swimming teacher and club coach. He has taken on the squad and worked tirelessly to develop our swimmers’ techniques, ensuring that they understand the ins and outs of their techniques. Our participation in 3 events this term have seen improvements in individual times, and we look forward to the IAPS Swimming Galas for U9, U11 and U13’s next term in Nairobi as well as some more local meets that we will be attending.

More information on which events we will be attending will follow in a letter from Team PE towards the end of this term.

We look forward to an exciting season of hockey, football and Swimming next term. Have a good rest, and don’t forget to keep being active over the festive break!
