This year, the Prefect Body, in conjunction with Head Boy and Head Girl, is excited to announce a new initiative to help students come together in unique ways: School Communities.
These groups, which are organised by the students themselves, ensure that each person is able to explore their interests while at the same time developing new skills to positively contribute to the school environment.
We are launching six key communities:
We invite each student to join at least one community and assist in building a stronger and more connected school.

Student leadership is the initiative that the students undertake to control, influence, and motivate peers towards achieving the common goals, which nurture the necessary skills such as communication, decision making and team work. Some people say that the best things in life are not lessons in a textbook and leadership is the best example. When learners are given the opportunity to become leaders, the mindset of growth that would not have been possible through a normal lesson would be created. It can be as simple as running a bake sale or as significant as leading a whole-school activity, navigating these real-world challenges helps our pupils build three vital qualities:
These soft skills are rapidly becoming the new hard ones as we gaze at life post secondary school. Nowadays, higher education establishments and employers are seeking something more than mere high grades on a results sheet; they are seeking individuals who can cooperate, work on their feet and motivate the others. By participating now our students are really practising the future professions they will take up in a conducive setting, so to speak.
To make all these values come to life we excitedly started our brand-new Student-Led Communities this Monday. These societies are intended to be a platform that all students irrespective of their year group can be front runners in a field of their genuine interest.
You can be a Year 7 student still learning to find your feet or a Year 13 student about to take your A Level examinations. Braeburn Mombasa International School is a place where you can be a leader. We really feel that leadership is a muscle: the more it is worked, the more it develops, and the more the whole school fraternity develops.
Additionally, being a prefect is not just about wearing a badge or standing in assemblies, to us it’s about actually making a difference. It’s seeing how small actions, support, and teamwork can change someone’s day or even the whole school vibe. That’s what drives us, and that’s what we hope to keep building.
Our vision is simple: to create a school community where everyone feels supported, encouraged, and motivated to do their best. As a prefect body, we want to lead by example, work together, and make BMIS a place where respect, growth, and success are part of everything we do.
We encourage every single student to take part in a community and make their mark.
