Secondary Mathematics News

21st June 2025

As usual it was a busy start to term 3 with the Year 9 class completing their Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations. This was followed by the start of the IGCSE and AS-Level and A-Level examinations which have recently concluded. We are, as usual, very pleased with how maturely they approached the whole experience.

Why we take the GL tests for Mathematics in Years 7-9

You may be wondering why after the checkpoint examinations Year 9 take and the written examinations the Year 7 and Year 8 students take, we would also take the GL online tests for Mathematics. This is because the GL tests for the Core subjects English, Mathematics and Science are taken by the Braeburn Group of schools. They give us feedback on the progress of our students relative to their previous tests. Consequently, these tests measure individual progress rather than giving a score relative to an age group. This is important as we are all about our students doing their best and progressing well relative to their individual abilities and starting points. Tests like this enable us to more accurately gauge true progress and give us valuable statistics to further help our students.
