Primary Spelling Bee

6th June 2025

The children in KS1 and KS2 have all been flexing their spelling muscles this term, showing how well they can apply their phonics knowledge and spelling skills. All the children took part in semi-finals rounds in their classes, competing against each other to determine who the finalists for our annual Spelling Bee will be. Due to Eid falling on Friday, 6th June, we have had to move the date and split the competition up to accommodate everyone who had other commitments.

Year 1, 2, 5 and 6 competed in the finals rounds on Thursday and did incredibly well when having to spell without pen or paper at hand. In Year 1, Deena, Maria and Siaan went head to head and Maria won the day with her correct spelling of ‘fridge’ – because they are still so young, they were allowed to use a white board and marker. The competition in Year 2 was fierce, with Andy, Iviani and Peter battling it out. Andy took the crown of top speller with two life-lines in hand.

In Year 5, Ishmeer, Sophy and Veer very nearly got through all the words on the list, not giving up until Veer clinched the title of top speller. Dev showed that the spelling gene definitely runs in the family, when he pipped it to the post with fierce competition from Chris and Alvin.

We have the Year 3 and 4 finals rounds to look forward to in Week in Week 10 and wish to congratulate all our young spellers on tremendous confidence and concentration when facing a rather difficult task.
