Primary PE News

26th May 2023

I am very pleased to have returned to school to find that the term has started off with everyone enjoying the long awaited rains. The fields and foliage have benefited and grown at a remarkable rate and our ground staff are working really hard to keep on top of the cutting, mowing and pruning and pitch marking that are essential for the PE dept to run smoothly. We will continue to work on the grounds and the cross country track is partly in use but should be fully functioning soon.

The children have begun their lessons well, working on their rugby and netball skills whilst dodging any heavy rainfall! Cross country lessons will also feature this term. As you can see from the pictures, the boys and girls are enjoying the lessons as all students take part in both netball and rugby. You may also note that as the children mature they are more responsible and are asked to lead parts of the lessons, in this case the warm ups.

We are now looking at continuing to develop the children's games skills, and are hoping to take them for some netball and rugby fixtures and hopefully to some of the IAPS tournaments in Nairobi after half term.

The IAPS tournaments are always extremely good fun. They are usually in Nairobi but can be at other upcountry schools as well. The standards of these competitions are high, both in terms of the levels of performances and the organisation and expectations of and during them. They offer our children a real challenge that we rise to on almost every occasion. We are very careful to select events that will benefit the children, either for the participation and exposure or the competition and do not try to attend every event as a result.

Our swimming programme is also continuing despite the rain, with many children attending the extra club sessions; again there are some upcoming CASA galas that we look forward to attending.

Please ensure that the children bring a change of clothes and shoes to school on PE days, in case of inclement weather, or muddy fields.

Kind regards

Nigel Moyse and PE Dept.

NB. Thank you for your good wishes and congratulations for the recent addition to my family and to Ms Barasa who worked double hard in my absence!
