Primary Interhouse Hockey

22nd March 2024

This years interhouse hockey was split into two groups. The years 1&2 played fun games of five a side hockey, showing off the skills and determination that they had been fostering all term. In the first game Simba and Kifaru drew 2-2 with goals from George for Kifaru and Garang for Simba. Garang showed great skill, dribbling the ball and creating spaces while George defended well making strong tackles. Mohammed and Natasha also shone, defending stoutly while Claras tackles are strong and accurate! In the next game Simba managed 5 goals with Cleah and Ishaan defending well and Adana performing very well in goal. The third game was a thrilling 4-4 draw with Marcus, Cleah, George and Ishaan scoring two goals each. Some excellent play again from George and Clara going forward and Adana in defence.

The upper primary hockey saw the years 3-6 playing together for the first time in several years. This was not due to low numbers but due to the fact that the years 3 & 4 particularly progressed well this term. They surpassed themselves at the IAPS hockey and showed that on the fields on Tuesday.

Alexander continued his impressive goalkeeping and Adam J and Ishmeer their slick stick skills. Ettiene led his Kifaru team very well, with Adam, David and Otto performing extremely well. Clemmie and Umulisa also performed well, in a combative midfield area! The first game was very tight, Kifaru missing a few chances and Willa saving several as Chui fought for a draw with them. The second game saw a swift start from Chui with Vyan pulling the strings with some accurate passes, Adam J netting one goal and Ishmeer one as they raced to a two goal lead against Simba. Simba battled back and really worked hard with Alexander making several saves and Sean really pressing forward to try and get a goal back. Chris managed to have two goals disallowed due to being just outside the shooting box, and with that Chui managed to hold off Simba’s late charge to win 2-0. The third game was another frantic affair. Both Kifaru and Simba went close to taking an early lead, with both goalkeepers again called into action. A few near misses whizzed past both teams posts, with Sean and Ettiene both going close. The girls were not to be overshadowed with excellent defending from Jasmine and Sophia and strong hits from Nyangdeng. This game finished as a draw, with both teams going hard until the past few moments of the game.

I am very pleased with the level of play and the sheer determination on display. The children have performed very well this term and made real progress.
