Primary Interhouse Netball and Rugby

6th July 2023

Primary sports report

This term we have been treated to many and varied events; from the early years sports day - preparing them for term ones athletics, to our trips to Nairobi to play netball and rugby. It has been a busy and enjoyable term. We have seen some outstanding performances and outstanding performers, and our swimmers have performed well at CASA events. As a smaller school with children often being asked to perform in many disciplines we perform very well. It also gives the children multiple opportunities and experiences. I am very pleased for us to take our hard working, dedicated and skilled children to events that can really benefit them. We look forward to next term when we will have many events, including an IAPS Kasarani athletics event, local athletics events, football events here and in Nairobi and cricket events along with our own interhouse festivals.

Interhouse netball and Rugby match reports

On Tuesday 20th June, we held our inter house netball. The games were fast and furious with every child from Year 1 through to Year 6 taking an active role in the games.

The Year 1&2 games were played with both enthusiasm and smiles! The house captains joined the teams and acted as coaches, warming them up and making sure that they all played and worked well together. During the first game, we saw some great play from Adam and David, scoring goals and making good passes. Ishaan almost scored as well, hitting the post with a very good effort. During the second match it was Nathan's turn to hit the post, and make several good runs to try and find the ball. Adam scored again and Joseph equalised as the teams battled to a draw. The final saw an electric game played between Simba and Chui, with Simba the eventual winners. In the Year 3 & 4 matches, the games were very well fought out, with some commendable work form Clemmie and Nyadeng within the Simba team making it very hard for both Kifaru and Chui. That said, Chris (Chui) and Afonso (Kifaru) scored a pair each in their games with Simba setting up a nail biting final where Afonso again scored, only for Ishmeer to peg them back but Alvin arrived with a late Kifaru winner. Year 5&6 netball was a great event. The teams played very well, defending with determination. The first game ended without a score! Then Simba managed a goal through Aiden M, while Adam and Nuriyah played very well. In the final game a Kifaru shooting masterclass occurred with Malak scoring three and Matis two as they out did Simba.

During the Primary interhouse rugby on the 27th June, the children excelled themselves. The quality of the games and skills was a credit to those who played, making tackles, running with the ball with purpose, playing as a team and showing some flair. The Year 1&2 games were great fun, lots of running and no shortage of quality play. We saw great attacking play from Chui with Willa running hard at her opponents to score, Jesse showing great speed as well and Julie running in a very good try. Kifaru played very well with David running well to score three times. Later Simba and Kifaru served up a superb match, Cleah played very well, moving the ball with confidence, while Joseph scored a great try. David and Jesse showed their agility and ran in a score each, with their Kifaru again showing teamwork.

The Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6 games had literally everything. The teams really put in every ounce of energy. The Simba team worked really hard, making multiple tackles and running hard with the ball. Chui were very strong, with Adam, Daisy and Chris scoring tries, and showing great team work as well as breaking quickly when they recovered the ball. The Chui vs Kifaru year 5 and 6 fixture was a fantastic game, Vyan and Nuriyah scoring tries for Chui while a hattrick for Matis saw the scores level. Kifaru 3&4 showed strong running and team play with Afonso and Alvin scoring with Clemmie making a fantastic defensive contribution and scoring for Simba. In another thrilling game, Simba and Chui shared nine tries, with a hattrick for Aden Mfalme and two for Sienna beating Luca and Vyan’s double each. The final game for the Year 3 and 4 was also fantastic, Afonso (2), Otto and Alvin all scoring for Kifaru, while Daisy and Chris scored for Chui. A really good end to a fantastic festival. Then Simba and Kifaru Year 5 and 6 saw four more tries for Aden and one more for Sienna as Matis replied with two and Malak one, a very good run into the corner.

I would like to congratulate all of the children on their skill, teamwork and sportsmanship. The three cheers after each game were as enthusiastically given as I have seen!

I would like to thank all of the TAs that have supported the games and PE lessons this year, the support of the ground staff and Esther (who cleans the kit and does loads behind the scenes). A big thank you to Ms Barasa for her holding the fort during my paternity leave.

Have a great holiday and we look forward to term one and making more strides forwards.
