Roderick Daniels Political Party Debate – A Powerful Display of Student Voice and Leadership
As we close the term, one of the most exciting highlights has been the Political Party Debate held this week at Braeburn Mombasa International School, proudly led by the History Department.
The event brought together students from Year 6 to Year 9, who took on the challenge of forming their own political parties, drafting manifestos, and publicly presenting their visions to their peers. From thought-provoking policies to passionate speeches, the debate showcased not only academic understanding of governance and citizenship but also creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
Entirely student-run, the debate was a powerful display of student leadership, with learners managing everything from party organisation to campaign strategy, speech writing, and public presentation. Each group tackled real-world issues with maturity and insight, demonstrating their growing understanding of the political process and the responsibilities of leadership.
The audience was thoroughly engaged throughout the event, and students were given the opportunity to cast their votes for both the best political party and the best speaker. The voting process itself provided a practical and meaningful way for students to experience democratic participation.
Several participants were recognised for their exceptional public speaking, including confident delivery, strong articulation, improved presentation skills, and persuasive responses to questions. Their performances reflected dedication, preparation, and a genuine passion for the topics they discussed.
In a thrilling finish, the voting results revealed a tie between two exceptionally well-prepared groups:
Both parties captured the spirit of the event through their strong teamwork, creative manifestos, and ability to connect with their audience.
This debate not only concluded the term on a high note but also reinforced the importance of student voice, critical thinking, and active citizenship, all core values we strive to instill here at BMIS.
A huge thank you to all students who participated, and to the History Department for guiding and facilitating such a meaningful and memorable event.
