Mathematics – our new tutor time Mathematics initiative

As a new initiative due to the extra tutor time every day the Mathematics department is setting a Mathematics task for completion during tutor time every Wednesday morning. The first activity is to aid recall and covers general Maths skills that students should be able to routinely complete by the time they sit their IGCSE. The second activity is a short fun problem-solving activity. This enables stronger students to move onto another task and ensures all have the time they need on task one.
The idea is to make common skills second nature to free working memory for the more complex parts of the question as students encounter harder work. In addition, we are helping ensure the general numeracy remains good.
Here is an example of one of the Year 7 and Year 8 activities (please note that children in the same group may be assigned different tasks due to their individual needs.
