During the past four weeks, the Year 12 PSHE curriculum focused on the core theme of Respectful Relationships. This unit was particularly relevant and timely, designed to support students in building healthy interpersonal skills during a period of increased academic stress due to ongoing Cambridge examinations.
The delivery of lessons was adapted to accommodate the examination timetable, ensuring that all students could still benefit from personal development content while managing their academic responsibilities. Students were given access to lesson materials via PowerPoint for independent study.
Week 1 – Consent
Students explored the concept of consent and having personal boundaries. They learned how to give and receive consent respectfully and why it is essential in all relationships.
Weeks 2 and 3 – Assertive Communication
These sessions focused on developing assertive communication skills. Students learned to distinguish between passive, aggressive, and assertive behaviours, and how to express themselves confidently and respectfully.
Week 4 – Positive Relationships and Recognising Abuse
Students examined the qualities of healthy relationships and learned how to identify signs of abuse. The lesson also provided guidance on where and how to seek help if needed.

This term, Year 13 PSHE lessons focused on Building and Maintaining Relationships. The lessons were based on research, and students were encouraged to work together, share ideas, and learn from each other. Each week had a different focus to help students understand relationships better.
In the first week, students looked at Understanding Boundaries. They worked through different scenarios to explore how to set and respect personal boundaries. They talked about how everyone’s boundaries are different and why it’s important to listen to and respect others.
The second and third weeks focused on Building Trust and Respect and Spotting Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships. Students discussed what makes a relationship strong and respectful, and how to tell when a relationship might be unhealthy. They shared ideas and thought about real-life examples to help them understand the signs.
In the final week, students explored Social Dynamics and Peer Pressure. They will learnt about how friendships and groups can affect their choices. The students investigated ways to deal with pressure while still being true to themselves. Overall, the lessons helped students feel more confident in understanding and managing relationships in a healthy way.
