Year 10 - Explore the World of Financial Decision Making

This term, our Year 10 students have been learning about financial decision making as part of their PSHE and Citizenship lessons.

Students explored how to manage money responsibly, covering key areas such as budgeting, saving, spending wisely, and understanding the difference between needs and wants. They also looked at the risks and responsibilities that come with borrowing money, as well as how advertising and peer pressure can influence spending decisions.

Through discussions, real-life case studies, and hands-on activities like creating sample budgets and comparing financial products, students have started to think more deeply about the financial choices they’ll face as young adults.

To make the learning even more engaging, students played a lively game of Monopoly,a fun and practical way to explore concepts such as investing in real estate, managing assets, and weighing financial risks. The game sparked excellent conversations about long-term strategy, risk-taking, and financial priorities.

One of the highlights of the unit was a class debate on the popular “buy now, pay later” schemes, which helped students to consider both the benefits and the risks involved in such financial decisions.

It’s been wonderful to see our students engaging so thoughtfully with this topic and beginning to build the confidence they need to make informed financial choices in the years ahead.
