KS3 students practise lifesaving skills

9th June 2023

This term in KS3 we have been studying an important topic that is essential to our lives in school and outside school: Water Survival skills and Lifesaving.

In everyday life whether you are planning a beach vacation, swimming in a pool or enjoying at the sea, understanding the fundamentals of water safety is crucial.

We will explore essential tips and techniques to ensure everyone’s safety while enjoying water activities. They include:

  1. Learn to swim
  2. Swim in designated areas
  3. Buddy system-never swim alone
  4. Be cautious of water depth
  5. Wear appropriate floating devices
  6. Learn basic lifesaving skills
  7. Be weather-wise

We have also tackled basic First Aid for drowning victims and how to place a casualty in a recovery position and also assessing the aftermath. Students were excited to learn new tips and tricks and be part of rescuers as well.

Remember, water safety is a shared responsibility. By practising these tips and spreading awareness, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable time for everyone in and around water bodies.
