KS3 News - A Term Of Growth And Achievement

29th March 2025

As Term 2 comes to a close, we reflect on the incredible progress and achievements of our KS3 and KS4 students. It has been a term filled with growth, enthusiasm and a commitment to embodying the Braeburn school circles.

Our students have excelled in various areas this term. They delivered engaging and insightful class assemblies, demonstrating their ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively. They also joined speaking clubs like World Scholars and EAMUN, further developing their confidence and articulation. This has made a notable overall improvement in public speaking skills, with more students earning the BMIS award for speaking.

Students received inspiring talks: The Chimp Paradox and The Upward Spiral. The Chimp Paradox, based on Dr. Steve Peters' model, explains how the human brain has an emotional "chimp" that can sometimes overpower logical thinking. Students learned how to manage their emotions, make rational decisions, and develop self-control. The Upward Spiral, inspired by Dr. Alex Korb's research, explores how small positive habits can create a cycle of improving mental well-being. It emphasises the power of gratitude, physical activity, and mindfulness in fostering a happier and more resilient mindset. Both sessions have empowered students to make informed decisions about their emotional and personal development. Empathy was another assembly theme that challenged students to think critically about their own character and interactions with others.

Students have been more engaged in school events. Student leaders have also thrived in organising events and team-building activities successfully. We commend those who participated in the careers evening, secondary showcase, and the arts and music concert evening.

We are immensely proud of all our students for their dedication and hard work this term. Congratulations to Natalie and Kylan for earning the Summum Appeto award and Fidel Year 11 for the Progress award. We encourage all students to continue to embrace opportunities, push their limits and strive for excellence in all areas of school life.

Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable break!
