Key Stage 4&5 Round-up

5th July 2024

As we near the Summer holiday, we reflect on an exceptionally fulfilling term. Throughout these months, Key Stage 4 students and staff have engaged in a diverse array of events and activities, celebrating numerous achievements and fostering a spirit of community and success.

YEAR 11 – LEAVERS CLASS OF 2024

It has been a joyous journey witnessing our Year 11 cohort mature into remarkable individuals over the years. We bid a heartfelt farewell to the Class of 2024, and at the final Year 11 Assembly they shared cherished memories, stories of adventures of their time at BMIS, and imparted wisdom to their peers. A highlight of their farewell was the Leavers cocktail held on the day of their final examinations.

Later, at the annual Speech Day marking the end of the school year, we paid tribute to their accomplishments with a traditional ‘Final Countdown and Goodbye’, presenting them with completion certificates and celebrating their high school years.

The Annual Award Ceremony provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on the term, recognising achievements in various fields and showcasing the breadth of opportunities available at BMIS. It was a fitting conclusion to a memorable year, acknowledging outstanding contributions from students, including the commendable speeches delivered by our High School Head Prefects, Lilly-May Wakefield, and Fidel Wasike.

Parents and caregivers can take pride in their children's achievements as they prepare to advance into the 6th form for A-levels, BTEC, and beyond in 2025.

Best wishes!

BRAEBURN ALUMNI NEWS

Meanwhile, the Braeburn Alumni community continues to flourish, with former students regularly returning to school events, performances, and sports activities. This term, we were delighted by surprise visits from alumni Prudence Okello and her brothers Dominique and Alphonse, who revisited their alma mater to reconnect with teachers, staff and current students, embodying the enduring spirit of Braeburn.

Aliasgher, a former head boy at the school, also visited recently and it was pleasant to have them all pop into classes to catch up with their old teachers and staff and also speak to the current students as they strolled around the school compound.

Adding to the alumni pride, we were honoured to welcome Vivek Dhutia, Managing Director at Quantum Plus Ltd, as a guest speaker at the 2024 Annual Speech Day. Vivek, a distinguished former student, shared insights from his journey after leaving Braeburn, highlighting how his formative years here contributed significantly to his personal and professional growth, inspiring our current students with invaluable career advice and life lessons.

As we look back on this term with gratitude and look forward to the long break, we celebrate not just achievements, but the bonds forged and the lessons learned, reaffirming our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals at Braeburn Mombasa International School.

HEAD GIRL’S SPEECH - 2024: LILLY-MAY

Parents, Invited Guests, Staff, and Students Good morning!

I'd like to start by saying a big thank you to everyone for completing yet another successful school year. Reflecting on this past year, it seems to have flown by faster than ever. From memorable events like the MUN and KS3 trips to spirited sports competitions, there was no shortage of excitement. It's moments like these that make our school experience at Braeburn Mombasa so enriching and unforgettable

When I first joined Braeburn in Year 8, I was a shy 13-year-old who couldn't imagine that one day I would be standing on a stage giving a speech as head girl. Yet here I am today, filled with gratitude for the friendships and experiences that have shaped me into a more confident individual. Thank you to my peers and teachers for making this journey an incredible ride. My time as a student and eventually as Head Girl will always be remembered with a lot of nostalgia.

Art has always been my passion, and my Art teacher Ms. Man’goli has been instrumental in nurturing that passion. Despite the challenges and my insistence to anyone who could care to listen to me then, that things were so tough, I'm so happy that despite everything, we never gave up and now I am so proud of what we achieved together. For this, the Art students will forever remain deeply thankful for the unwavering support Ms. Man’goli, gave us with our art coursework. You will be missed greatly.

As we bid farewell to a few of our beloved teachers who are leaving the school, I want to express my appreciation for their dedication and inspiration. Mr. Daniels who has been at Braeburn for 20 years will surely be missed. Your history lessons were a highlight of my early years in this school and your impact on my academic journey has been profound. You will be missed not just in history class but also during the political debates.

A special congratulations goes to all those who tackled end-of-year exams, especially, the Year 9, 11, and 12 students who have shown tremendous dedication and resilience while sitting external examinations. To those facing these exams next year, I wish you the very best of luck. To those graduating and moving on to new adventures, may your futures be bright and fulfilling. Please keep in touch—we'd love to hear about your successes and adventures ahead.

We are standing on the brink of a well-deserved break and I'm sure we're all eager and looking forward to the holiday which for me began the moment I completed my final IGCSE paper….. I would like to say a big thank you to all the teachers and students who've made this year memorable, and best wishes to everyone. Have a fantastic summer break ahead and do take time to enjoy every moment! You deserve it

Thank you.

Ladies and Gentlemen, guests, teachers and students, Good morning.

As we gather to mark the end of a year filled with growth and remarkable achievements, I feel privileged to share this moment with all of you.

Reflecting on this academic year, we have all faced unique experiences, both individually and collectively. We have adapted to new ways of learning, supported each other through difficult times, and celebrated our successes together. These experiences have not only made us stronger but have also taught us the importance of perseverance, empathy, and unity.

To all the students of Braeburn Mombasa, congratulations on reaching this milestone. Each of you has shown incredible resilience, determination, and hard work this academic year. Whether you have excelled in sports, the arts, or academically, your efforts have created a community where everyone feels valued and inspired to achieve their best.

To those who are leaving us this year, whether you are graduating, moving to a new school, or pursuing different opportunities, we will miss you dearly. Your contributions to the school community are appreciated and as you embark on new adventures you will always be in our hearts. Remember to carry forward the lessons and friendships you have made here and know that you have the strength and skills to excel in whatever you choose to do next. We wish you all the best.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our teachers and staff. Your dedication, passion, and unwavering support have been instrumental in guiding us through this year. You have not only imparted knowledge but also instilled values and provided us with the tools we need to navigate the complexities of life. For this, we are eternally grateful.

Finally, I want to thank you all for the trust and support you have given me as Head Boy. It has been an honour to serve in this role, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together.
