Key Stage 4 News - Welcome Back

1st September 2023

It has been wonderful to welcome our students back to school and we extend a warm welcome to all those who have only recently joined Key Stage 4.

We have reached that exciting time of year when we are calling for nominations for the 2023-24 school leaders. At Braeburn Mombasa we want our students to play an active and positive role in all aspects of school life. We wholeheartedly value the work of our student leaders and offer a wide range of leadership roles in Key Stage 4. The current cohort of Key Stage 4 - 5 students has some fantastic potential candidates for Head Boy and Head Girl and the extended student leadership team i.e. Class Prefects, House Captains and School Council members.

Elections for Student council representatives were held early this week and each of the classes voted for their class representative. Interviews for Class Prefect positions will be our next call, but this will occur later in the next few weeks. The various House teams will also meet to elect House captains and their assistants.

To showcase their leadership skills in the democratic space that the school provides, students will in the coming week be lobbying for the available class prefect positions, seeking nomination and endorsement from classmates and the House team. They will write formal letters in class and eventually, those interested in the positions submit them to their Key Stage Coordinators for consideration.

Prefect application letters are already being written starting this week following which there will be interviews and class prefects will eventually be selected.

In the meantime, students have selected activities to participate in this term and indeed, the term has started with a beehive of activities providing opportunities for students, especially those in Key Stage 4, to explore and get involved in their learning journey.

To advise them about opportunities available for them post-high school, UK university representatives will be at BMIS on Monday 18th September. Students will get the chance to get first-hand information about further education opportunities in various institutions of higher learning.

As the current Y11 students embark on the final lap of their journey to the IGCSE Examinations in June 2024, we wish them the best of luck.
