Key stage 4 and 5 business students recently had the opportunity to visit Bamburi Cement for an educational business trip. During the visit, we spoke with members of staff who explained how cement is produced and showed us the different stages of the manufacturing process. They also told us about the history of the company and how it developed into one of the leading cement producers in the region.
Another interesting part of the trip was learning about how the company works to care for the environment. Staff explained how they try to reduce environmental damage and protect wildlife around the area. While walking around the site, we even saw a waterbuck, which showed how animals are able to live around the restored land. We also learned about the creation of Haller Park and how the area was transformed from a quarry into a nature park. In addition, they told us about how the company supports and values its employees.
Overall, the trip was very informative and gave us a better understanding of how a large manufacturing business operates. A special thank you goes to Miss Yvonne Omondi for organising this opportunity for our class.

Last Wednesday we went to Bamburi Cement for Business Studies school trip to learn about the aspects that are taken into consideration when running a large scale factory.upon arriving we first had to go through many mandatory security checks which gave us a glimpse of the risk management systems they had. We were guided into a conference room where a representative of theirs walked through Bamburi cements history and most importantly how they co-exist with their surroundings. We learnt the different methods they have to minimize their impact on their surroundings like filter bags which catch dust particles ,this helps them reduce their impact on their neighbours .We learnt of their initiative to restore the environment they have already mined an example being Haller Park, this gave new life to an area after they have mined all the raw materials they needed. The representative was happy to answer the many questions we had prepared for them which allowed us to see how the things we are taught in our syllabus are used in a real business environment.Additionally we were given refreshments as we had been learning for a while. Finally we were taken outside to get a final tour of the place and see the different stages of their cement production, like a large scale machine that melts everything put into it. In conclusion it was an amazing opportunity that we are grateful for and were sure this trip has given us a deeper understanding of the operations that happen in the business world and what's demanded.
