Key Stage 3 Term 2 Highlight

27th March 2026

Term 2 has been an energetic and purposeful period for KS3, marked by strong engagement, achievement and growing independence. The term began with Year 9 students selecting their KS4 subjects through engaging taster lessons, which allowed them to explore different disciplines and make informed decisions linked to their interests and future aspirations.

At the Inter-Braeburn Swimming Competition and IAPS events, Sean, Lloyd, Nathaniel and Imara competed with determination and resilience. This continued at the BMIS Gala, where Sean, Lloyd, Nathaniel, Zahra, Alvin and Imara demonstrated excellent teamwork and sporting spirit. Matis excelled at the National Long Course Gala, winning two bronze medals across thirteen events in one weekend. Jason impressed in athletics, placing second against older competitors, while Imara, Titus, Sean and Alvin secured individual medals. Notably, Imara was the only student selected from BMIS to represent the wider Braeburn team in hockey in South Africa.

Academically, KS3 excelled in the Braeburn Maths Challenge, securing first place overall across all key stages. This achievement reflected strong collaboration, problem-solving and resilience. Year 7 and 8 also benefited from insightful careers talk with Alex Manning, which helped students better understand subject pathways, future opportunities and the importance of making informed choices early.

French International Week provided a rich cultural experience. Year 7 and 9 students visited a French Navy ship, gaining real-world insight into how languages connect with geography, IT and teamwork. Year 8 students took part in Francophonie Day, engaging in cultural activities, and the week concluded with DELF success, with a 100% pass rate and recognition as the best performing school.

Form time remained engaging and student-led, with activities shaped through student voice, fostering ownership and collaboration. This resulted in an impressive 100% attendance across KS3. Alongside this, PSHE lessons supported personal growth, with Year 7 focusing on relationships and health, Year 8 on wellbeing and careers, and Year 9 on respectful relationships and healthy lifestyles.

As we look ahead to next term, we are proud of the energy, growth and achievements of our KS3 students. We are excited to see them continue to thrive. Well, done to the KS3 students for their commitment. Special thanks to KS3 parents and teachers for your continued support.
