In-class Support in Secondary

1st July 2022

At BMIS, we recognise and endeavour to support each student to make progress and reach their potential by overcoming any possible learning barriers. It is solidly against this backdrop that we initiated in-class support in Years 8 and 10, this academic year. This is an inclusion strategy where Learning Support Teachers work alongside their regular classroom teaching counterparts in English and Mathematics to support all learners to make progress during lessons. We are working on how to further improve this learning provision for even better results, in the future. This is what some of the learners think about this mode of support:

Rhea Y10 - In-class support has made a major impact for me. I get to ask many questions freely when I am stuck with my work.

Kingdavid Y10 – In-class support is very helpful in Maths in a core group. I can do my work when others are doing theirs. It also reduces time wastage so you get more work done.

Michaela Y8 – In-class support is good for me because it helps me do more work. I can ask questions and the teacher can explain more when I don’t understand.

Hendrika Y8 – I like in-class support because when our subject teacher is helping others I also get help to do my work.

Lauryn Y8 – In-class support is good because many individuals get help easily when they are stuck and need help.

Femi Y8 - I find in-class support helpful and it makes life easier and it makes me achieve what I want in subjects like Mathematics and English.

Laaibah Y8 – I like in-class support because we have two teachers in the lesson so it takes a short time for me to get help when I am stuck.
