In week 6, sixteen of BMIS’s strongest mathematicians from Year 3 to Year 8 travelled to Kenton College in Nairobi to compete in the 2022 IAPS Maths Challenge.
Working in pairs and with the clock ticking, teams were required to solve mathematical problems involving number patterns, multiplication, tangrams and logical reasoning as quickly as possible. Teams received points for every puzzle they solved in the allotted time and points were added to an overall leaderboard.
With the Maths Challenge being attended by 9 other international schools from around the country, the competition was hot and it was humbling to be in that arena surrounded by so much mathematical talent. Though BMIS didn’t feature in the top 3, our children certainly did us proud and a special mention must go to one of our Year 5 pairs, Aaryan and Nuriyah, who finished 7th out of 39 teams made up of Year 5 and 6 students. A mighty effort indeed!
