IAPS Chess Tournament in Nairobi

23rd May 2025

On Saturday 3rd May 2025, a team of eager and talented chess players from Braeburn Mombasa traveled to Nairobi to compete in an IAPS chess tournament hosted by Braeburn Gitanga Road. The event brought together ten schools from across the country in a day of exciting and challenging matches.

Our team journeyed up by train on Friday and stayed overnight at Braeburn Garden Estate, returning to Mombasa by air on Saturday evening, a memorable experience in itself!

The tournament featured three age categories:

  • Under 9: Ishaan, Julie, Tamar, and Iviani

  • Under 11: Dev, Veer, and Jasmine

  • Under 13: Aaryan and Phillippe

Each participant played four 20-minute matches, demonstrating skill, focus, and sportsmanship throughout.

Special congratulations go to Aaryan, who dominated the U13 category with four straight wins to secure 1st place, and to Phillippe, who earned 3rd place with three wins and a draw.

Team standings were as follows:

  • U13 and U11 teams both placed 4th

  • U9 team 5th place

  • Overall, Braeburn Mombasa proudly finished 4th out of 10 schools

Well done to all our players! They not only competed strongly but also embraced the opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy the spirit of the game. We look forward to even greater success in future tournaments!
