FS2 News

27th September 2025

FS2 children have settled really well into their new class. They have shown great excitement in many areas, from wearing their new uniform to engaging in a variety of enriching learning experiences. So far, the children have explored the topics of Rainbows, Fairies, and are currently enjoying Houses and Homes.

Topic Work

The children learnt about rainbows—how they are formed and why we only see them as a semi-circle from Earth.

We are now exploring Houses and Homes. The children have been learning about different types of houses people live in, as well as the homes of animals. They enjoyed listening to the story The Three Little Pigs and then creating the pigs’ different homes. Using construction blocks and lolly sticks, they also designed their own houses and included family members in them. Their enthusiasm and creativity in this topic has been wonderful to see!

Literacy

The children are now able to recognise their names in print and have been working hard to write them on their own pieces of work. We have also begun our Phonics programme. The children are showing excitement and zeal as they learn new sounds, name words that begin with those sounds, and practise writing the sounds.

Mathematics

In Maths, the children have been exploring the Five Frame. Each morning, they self-register when arriving at school and again each afternoon before going home. This activity is helping them build number sense and understand “how many” children are in school each day. We have also been exploring patterns through hands-on activities using a variety of resources.

Understanding the World

The children have been taking care of the flowers in our garden by watering them each morning. They love watching them grow and learning how to care for living things.

Outdoor and Child-Initiated Learning

The children enjoyed riding the Strider bikes and tricycles on our bike track. The sand and water area has also been very popular. A special moment was when Owen built a volcano in the sandpit and cleverly used the hosepipe to make water flow through it, creating bubbles to show the volcano erupting! What fantastic creativity and critical thinking.

Here are some photos of our learning experiences!
