FS1: Eight Wonderful Weeks of Fun, Discovery, and Learning!

24th October 2025

The FS1 children have had eight incredible weeks filled with fun, creativity, and hands-on learning!
We have explored a variety of exciting topics, including Amazing Me, Rainbows, Nursery Rhymes, and Trees — each one sparking curiosity, laughter, and confidence in our little learners.

During our Amazing Me topic, the children made their own picture puzzles and designed beautiful family houses using a variety of craft materials. They proudly shared stories about their families, what makes them special, and the people who love and care for them. These activities encouraged the children to talk about their feelings, develop confidence, and recognise how unique and amazing they are!

Our Rainbows topic was bursting with colour and joy! The children learnt to sing the cheerful Rainbow Song and discovered how colours can mix to make new ones. A highlight was when we created a bright and healthy fruit and vegetable rainbow, which the children thoroughly enjoyed tasting during snack time. Through this, we learnt about healthy eating, colours in nature, and working together to create something beautiful.

When learning about Nursery Rhymes, the classroom was filled with music and laughter! The children sang favourites such as Five Little Speckled Frogs and Miss Polly Had a Dolly. Our highlight was baking a cake during the rhyme Pat-a-Cake, where the children took turns mixing ingredients, sharing utensils, and helping one another. It was lovely to see them collaborating, building teamwork, and showing enthusiasm in bringing their learning to life.

This week, our topic was Trees, which allowed the children to explore the world around them. They collected leaves, twigs, and seeds and talked about why trees are so important for people, animals, and the planet. The highlight of this topic was our class trip to Forest Trails, where the children enjoyed a morning surrounded by nature. They observed trees of all shapes and sizes, joined in yoga and mindfulness sessions under the trees, and played games that encouraged curiosity, exploration, and appreciation for the environment.

In our Creative Area, the children have been freely exploring textures, colours, and natural objects to express their ideas. They have used a range of materials — from paint and playdough to leaves and fabric — to create stunning pieces of art inspired by our topics. Their growing independence and imagination have truly shone through in every activity.

Our Phonics lessons have also been amazing!
The children are thoroughly enjoying Twinkl Phonics Level 1, where they explore listening games, rhythm and rhyme, sound discrimination, and environmental sounds. It’s wonderful to see how confident they have become in recognising and producing sounds, listening carefully to instructions, and communicating with growing clarity and confidence.

We are so proud of how much each child has achieved during these eight weeks. Their curiosity, teamwork, and joy in learning make every day in FS1 special.

Here are some of our photos — enjoy seeing all the smiles, creativity, and magical learning moments that have taken place in FS1.
