“Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid” – little by little, the bird builds it's nest

26th September 2025

“Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid” – little by little, the bird builds its nest. This proverb reflects the steady progress our students are making as they grow in confidence and ability with the language.

The Year 7 students have begun the year by revisiting essential vocabulary from primary school: numbers, polite expressions, food items and places in town. This recap has provided a strong foundation for exploring regular verbs and building simple sentences that can be applied in real-life contexts, such as buying items in shops or making polite requests. These skills link directly to DELF A1 speaking, where clarity and confidence in everyday communication are key.

Our lessons also highlight cultural awareness and practical application. Through role plays and interactive exercises, students are learning that language is not just memorising words but having the confidence to use them meaningfully.

We are equally proud of our Year 8 students, who are now sitting the DELF Junior A1 examinations today at the Alliance française de Mombasa. DELF is not just an exam day but the result of a journey of learning, practice and growth. Our students have embraced this process with dedication and passion and we wish them every success, knowing that their greatest achievement lies in the progress they have already made.

Importantly, this work in junior classes right from primary is also about building excellence for the future, especially for IGCSE French. The habits of practice, sentence accuracy, exposure to authentic audio materials, wide vocabulary knowledge and growing speaking confidence will provide a strong platform for higher-level study.

At the heart of all these efforts is the belief that language learning is built step by step. Each new word, sentence and role play adds to the “nest” our students are carefully constructing. It is a journey of patience, persistence and joy. We look forward to seeing our students continue to grow and flourish.
