French Day at Braeburn Mombasa International School – 18th March 2025

29th March 2025

The day began with warm bonjours and hugs, reflecting the strong bond of the Francophonie community in Mombasa. Through language, we connect beyond words!

The arrival of Mr. Abdala (French/English/Swahili), a first aider and trainer of trainees from the Kenya Red Cross, Mr. Kilugha Elius (English/French/German) from Grande Espace Safaris, and Ms. Priscilla Lecompte (English speaker, French national, with excellent Swahili), Communications Manager at the United Nations - Online, set the stage for an insightful panel discussion on multilingualism.

During the panel, the speakers shared inspiring testimonies on how their knowledge of languages has played a crucial role in their professional journeys.

Students from some international schools in Mombasa enjoyed a dynamic and engaging lineup of activities, animated by B2 student volunteers from Alliance Française. Some of these students are preparing to travel to France for the Assistant English Language Teachers Program—a fantastic opportunity!

A huge bravo to the students for their enthusiasm and teamwork! It was wonderful to see them working so energetically with new friends from different schools. The collaboration truly embodied the spirit of the Francophonie!

The groups were Les Parisiens, Les Nantais, Les Bordelais, and Les Marseillais. Where the students showed great dedication and engagement throughout the morning.

A heartfelt thank you to my school, Braeburn Mombasa, under the leadership of Mr. Welch, and to Alliance Française de Mombasa, as well as Léa Laouaf from the French Embassy, for the wonderful gifts that were presented to the French teachers.

I am now looking forward to more francophone partnerships in future.

Merci beaucoup, Asante sana, VIVE LE FRANÇAIS AU KENYA!
