Students have explored various topics that deepen their understanding of the language and culture. This term, they have covered various topics, including communication, tenses, time, my house, and pronouns. These topics are foundational pillars, equipping students with essential linguistic skills while fostering a deeper connection to the Swahili language and culture.
Some highlights include a captivating role play held at our model shop, where students demonstrated their grasp of communication in real-life scenarios. This interactive experience sharpened their language skills and instilled confidence in their ability to express themselves fluently in Kiswahili, albeit with limited vocabulary for some. Recently, students were introduced to the art of reciting Swahili poems, focusing on intonation and expression, which enhanced their appreciation for the rhythmic beauty of the language.
Moreover, students have learned to tell time in Kiswahili. Their diligent efforts were evident as they differentiated between Kiswahili and English terminology, utilising terms such as kamili (o'clock), na robo (quarter past), na nusu/ unusu (half past), and kasorobo (quarter to the next hour). In their Term 2A test, most students showcased significant progress and advancement to higher proficiency levels. Well done Year 7s, for your outstanding efforts and enthusiasm!
