23rd June 2023
Last December, the Interact team delivered the Christmas Shoe Boxes, our community lovingly put together, to the children of the Wema Centre. The Wema Centre is situated in Bamburi, approximately 10 mins by car from Braeburn Mombasa, and is a non-governmental organisation whose aim is to remove children from the street, give them a safe place to live and ensure they go to school.
Following our visit in December we were keen to nurture the link that we established and therefore created the Community Club after-school activity in Term 3 with the objective of organising activities our students and children could enjoy together.
Although Wema had to work around the children’s school timings and school expectations, we managed to welcome two groups for two after-school sessions.
On Monday 12th June, a group of talented young singers joined our Secondary band. It was delightful to listen to them sing and to witness the harmony between instruments and voices. The children were eager to learn and once the singing practice was over, they had a go at playing some of the instruments available.
On Monday 19th June, younger children made “all about me” scrapbooks. They used cut pictures they liked out of magazines and stuck them in their book; they also drew and coloured. It was a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere as we listened to soft music while we worked.
Thank you to Miss Kihuha and Miss Onyango for supporting the Community Club. Thank you to Wema Centre for giving us the opportunity to meet some of their children once more this academic year.
