9th October 2025
On Tuesday, October 7th, Braeburn Mombasa International School proudly joined the global celebration of Ada Lovelace Day, a day dedicated to honouring the achievements of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The event served as an inspiring reminder of how creativity, curiosity, and courage can change the world.
The morning began with an assembly led by Christy and Dwyane (Year 13), who introduced students to Ada Lovelace, the visionary mathematician, often regarded as the world’s first computer programmer. They spoke passionately about her pioneering spirit and how her work continues to shape modern computing and innovation today.
Throughout the morning, students took part in a series of engaging STEM activities across departments. The Physics challenge sparked problem-solving and teamwork, while a Mathematics puzzle session encouraged logical thinking and creative reasoning. In the spirit of Ada Lovelace, the activities emphasised not just knowledge but also imagination, demonstrating how science and creativity go hand in hand.
Students also learned about other remarkable women in STEM from around the world and across Africa from engineers and chemists to inventors and astronauts whose determination and brilliance continue to inspire new generations.
The celebration highlighted our ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality in STEM and empowering all students to see themselves as capable innovators, regardless of gender. By connecting classroom learning to real-world inspiration, we hope to nurture the next generation of problem-solvers, scientists, and thinkers.
We are deeply grateful to all the teachers and students who contributed their time, creativity, and enthusiasm to make this celebration a success. Events like these remind us that at BMIS, we truly “Build Brilliance Together.”
