Btec- Business News

Did you know there was an amazing garment factory right here in Mombasa? As part of the How to Run and Start your own business, the BMIS Business BTEC department took several of its students to visit a successful business of considerable size in the clothing industry and more interestingly in the EPZ (Export Processing Zone). The students received a behind the scenes glimpse of the exciting world of manufacturing right in their own backyard.

The factory has created thousands of direct and indirect jobs-housing 5000 workers on these premises alone. “At full capacity, our garments factory runs 22 hours on shift work, employing more than 5000 young people who were jobless in the area,” said Mr Awtani.

The factory situated in Changamwe is modelled on the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) garment industrial unit.  Over 1000 machines have been installed together with other cutting, labelling and pressing machinery to ensure the garments meet the highest quality standards.
