BMIS Chess Tournament

23rd February 2024

Our growing chess team has recently participated in a number of tournaments, including the East Africa Juniors tournament that required a lot of stamina through classic matches to the rapid rounds that were played on our home ground, BMIS. A huge congratulations to all our players! Take a look at some of our photos from the event we hosted, as well as our accomplishments!

The tournaments have seen excellent dedication and progress in our students, with more and more choosing to engage in the game. The benefits of chess extend far beyond the board. Through their participation in tournaments, our kids develop crucial life skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, and patience. They learn to anticipate their opponents' moves, adapt to changing circumstances, and persevere in the face of challenges. We have seen these students bond together, with 12 and 13 year olds looking after 5 year olds, and congratulating each other following wins, and being a shoulder to lean on through losses. These invaluable lessons not only contribute to their growth as chess players but also prepare them for success in various aspects of life. These students have shown nothing short of the Braeburn spirit we proudly talk of, and we can’t wait to see what today’s tournament holds. This is the Kenya National Youth Chess Championship, the qualifier for the national round in April. Wish us luck!
