14th March 2026
I had the privilege of accompanying the athletics team to Shree Swaminarayan Academy on Saturday, 7th March, for a half-day filled with exciting track events. I consider it a privilege because I do not teach sports, even though I always have a keen interest in them. In fact, I often find myself envying the sports teachers, as they don’t have to schedule extra sessions for physical fitness or pay for gym memberships!
Throughout this event, our students gave their absolute all. They worked as a seamless unit in the relays and selflessly volunteered for extra spots on the schedule, with many competing in grueling back-to-back events and others after very short breaks. We had an impressive 12-year-old athlete who bravely competed in the open age category, going up against boys aged 17, and earned a commendable 2nd place! Even when the weather changed and the track grew slick with rain, the team’s grit never wavered (or could it be because children like playing in the rain?) Some of them suffered falls during their relays but immediately picked themselves up to finish their races with pride.
We proudly brought home several individual medals and even though the overall Shield remained just out of reach this time, this weekend proved that sports are about far more than trophies; they are about taking up opportunities, building consistency and endurance that lead to success.
Miss Barasa always says, "Sports build character," and I couldn't agree more. Because in some events, I witnessed students running with all their might, even with clear indicators that they weren't going to win; right there is the spirit that we need in life!
Congratulations to all our athletes for an inspiring performance!
