With a team of 15 debaters, we were ready for our first debate with the ‘African Debate Academy’, and what an event it was!
Our students prepared well ahead of the event, researching motions such as ‘This house believes that globalisation has done more harm than good’ and ‘This house regrets the rise of work from home culture’. They learnt how to structure a debate, the use of evidence and rebuttals, and how to use ‘POIs’ (points of information).
Our students did extremely well, with particular mentions for the following students:
For many of our students, this was a new skill. They all expressed how much they have enjoyed the event, and how much they have learnt in the process. Taking responsibility for their learning at its finest!
We are also delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Rens, Kylan, and Aaliya, who proudly represented our school in the Public Speaking Category at the Mombasa Schools Open Championships. The trio demonstrated exceptional confidence, critical thinking, and eloquence throughout the event, showcasing the very best of our school’s spirit and talent.
- A special congratulations goes to Aaliya, who clinched 1st place and was declared the Best Public Speaker in the Senior Category—a remarkable accomplishment that reflects her dedication, composure, and skill.
- We also applaud Rens, who achieved an impressive 3rd place in the Elementary Category. Their success is a true testament to the hard work, passion, and teamwork of our students and mentors. Well done to our public speaking team for flying the school flag high!
The African Debate Championship was not only about powerful speeches, it also included an exciting Inter-School Quiz Challenge that brought together some of the brightest young learners. BMIS students stood out in the fast-paced rounds, which covered Science, Social Studies, Languages, History, General Knowledge, Geography, and Sports.
Our Elementary team of critical thinkers included: Lloyd, Salma and Alice, who took part with great energy and focus. Competing as the “Bakerstreet Brains,” they performed exceptionally well. Their quick thinking, and teamwork, especially in Kahoot quizzes on different countries, spelling tasks, and general knowledge, helped them earn the second Runners-Up Cup in their category. Dwyane represented the senior team with confidence and enthusiasm, reflecting the curiosity and high standards we encourage at BMIS.
It was a proud moment for the school as students of all ages showed confidence under pressure, strong teamwork and excellent global awareness during the debate, quiz, and public speaking events. Their enthusiasm for learning beyond the classroom shone through in every activity. We are proud of everyone who took part and look forward to seeing BMIS continue to shine in future competitions.
