A Taster of Secondary!

26th June 2021

On Monday after lunch, Mr Daniels arrived in our classroom to teach us History. He put pictures of famous people on the board and we had to say who was who.

The next day, we had English with Ms Mkok, who told us a humorous story about a parking boy. The lesson we learnt was to never judge a book by it’s cover.

On Wednesday, we started with a Secondary assembly about how to handle stress before exams and tests. It was an interesting assembly that we are sure will help us in the near future. During PSHE, we discussed change in most of it’s forms. We also talked about emotions and feelings we might have during those changes.

In Maths, we learned more about what Maths lessons are like in Secondary. We now know we aren’t going to use pencils in Maths anymore. We also did some quick Maths questions.

In the afternoon, we had an hour of archery with Mr Moyse; the bow we used was bigger than most people in the class! We all enjoyed doing Archery.

During our French lesson on Wednesday, we went into pairs and learnt how to direct each other and use different directions. We went outside and directed each other in our pairs, which was exciting.

On the following day (Thursday), we had Geography, which involved a Scavenger Hunt in Secondary. The class had to move around Secondary and find clues, which helped to map out where all the classrooms are.

Later on in the day, it was time for Science. We used different foods and sodium to determine if the food is starch or not. For the second activity, we were testing different acids to see if they were neutral, alkali or acid.

We started Friday morning in Art, with a topic called ‘Under the Sea’. First we copied an image of sea animals in their habitat from a piece of paper, with our pencils. We all tried our hardest with drawing and it turned out really well. Once we were done drawing, we started to colour with oil pastels. Unfortunately the time ran out and we didn’t have enough time to finish.

At the end of the day, we had a Question and Answer with the Year 7s. Our teacher, Mr Took, made the questions for us and the Year 7s. There were different questions like “How many students are there in Year 6 and 7?”. We did it online, so there were some connection issues, but we still managed. The Year 7s told us all the clothing rules. At the end, some of the Year 7s told us what they liked and what they have achieved in Secondary.
