WORK EXPERIENCE AT BRAEBURN MOMBASA

Each year, as part of our careers education program, we place all Year 10 students with local employers to immerse them in the 'world of work'. This initiative is a component of our student's education, often leading to significant personal growth and a clearer focus on their future aspirations.

How Does It Work?

At Braeburn Mombasa, we collaborate closely with local businesses, organisations, and parents to arrange meaningful work placements for our students. During weekly PSHCE sessions, we provide essential guidance on the expected code of conduct, as well as health and safety protocols, ensuring our students are well-prepared for their roles.

Over the past few weeks, our Year 10 students have been diligently crafting formal letters of application, which have been sent to various organisations. They are now eagerly awaiting responses, hoping to secure a placement for the work experience week scheduled from 24th - 28th June. While our students may not yet have formal qualifications, they have expressed a strong commitment in their applications to apply themselves diligently in the workplace. They are expected to adhere to instructions from their supervisors and contribute positively to their temporary roles. During the work experience week, a member of our teaching staff will visit each organisation at a mutually convenient time to monitor and support the student's progress.

What Do Students Gain from This Experience?

  • A Glimpse into the Adult World: Students experience what it feels like to be treated as adults and to shoulder various responsibilities.
  • Development of Key Skills: This week provides an opportunity to try out and develop crucial skills that are important for future employment and personal growth.
  • Potential for Future Employment: Making a positive impact during this week can lead to offers for part-time or holiday work.
  • A Break from Routine: While it is a break from the usual school routine, students should be prepared for early starts, longer days, and possibly more physically demanding tasks.

We believe this experience will be enriching and successful for everyone involved, providing our students with invaluable insights and skills for their future careers.
