DISCRIMINATION

22nd February 2024

During the first half of this term, Year 8 discussed the many types and consequences of discrimination.

They researched examples of racism, sexism, ageism as well as religious and disability-based discrimination across many different societies.

We also spent some time discussing anti-semitism and marked the Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27th.

Having discussed and researched the many problems, students worked together to create their own anti-discrimination pressure groups.

PRO-FEMINISM

What is sexism?

Sexism is prejudice or discrimination against someone on the basis of their sex or gender. Sexism can affect anyone, but it typically is directed towards women and girls. The evidence of sexism can be seen in everyday language, the pay gap, and so many more facets of life.

Why should you be against sexism?

It harms our voices. It removes our rights and impacts the representation of women in the public and private sectors. I feel that I must work twice as hard in all facets of life just because I'm a woman. This is wrong, this is an injustice.

Aims

Strengthen the ability of women to be active campaigners against sexist behaviour and sexual harassment, with a particular focus on young people and women.

Increase the capacity of communities and organisations to deliver good-practice initiatives across the world.

Contribute to the evidence base in order to improve primary prevention of violence against women.
